A Little About Me

Passion, patience, and plenty of tail wags!

Hi, I’m Jess, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer–Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a CATCH Certified Dog Trainer (CCDT). My certifications are based on the high standards of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) and the position statements of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers International (APDT), two of the leading organizations in reward-based training. I also hold a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Natural Resource Management.

My professional journey with dogs began back in 2015, when I worked as a dog daycare and boarding manager at a well-established training and boarding facility. That experience deepened my love for dogs and showed me the incredible bonds we can share with them. Inspired to take the next step, I sought out a modern, rewards-based training program rooted in science and force-free methods. I went on to graduate with distinction from CATCH Canine Trainers Academy, a government- and state-approved school and program.

Since becoming CPDT-KA certified in 2022, I’ve had the privilege of helping families live more harmoniously with their canine companions. My goal is always to bring out the best in each dog while giving their humans the tools and confidence to understand, support, and connect with them.

I also believe in lifelong learning. To stay current, I regularly pursue continuing education in dog training and behavior, and I keep my pet First Aid and CPR certifications up to date.

At the heart of everything I do is kindness, respect, and a deep appreciation for dogs as individuals.

    I began working with Jess in November 2020 as her mentor trainer for her CATCH Canine Trainers Academy program. After Jess became certified in early 2021, I offered her the opportunity to come and train with me. We offered basic, intermediate, and advanced puppy and dog training classes, as well as private training sessions. Jess is an exceptional and skilled dog trainer. She is amazing at what she does and builds positive, strong, and lasting foundations for owners and their dogs. Jess is experienced in positive training methods, she is patient and a great coach!  The years we trained together were fun and rewarding for me and our clients.     Cooper and Jess hit it off right away.  Cooper, being a newly adopted Border Collie, desperately needed some guardrails. Jess was very patient and clear about what and how to reinforce the good behaviors and gently move him toward making the right choices to be a good member of our household. Jess’s creative games and simple activities really helped Cooper and me learn how to work together and be good companions.

    We worked with Jess to train our dog Chico, whom we got from a rescue.

    It was an amazing, eye-opening experience for us. One of the most interesting parts for us was that, in a lot of the cases, the training was not just for our dog but also for ourselves. How we held our posture, how we showed confidence in leading him, and the ways we interacted with him really made a huge difference in improving Chico’s behavior.

    We would absolutely recommend Jess to other dog parents. She is a stellar trainer, and she truly understands dogs on a deep level.

    I have known Jess as a part of the dog world for the past 10 years, both professionally and as my "ONLY" dog sitter. In the professional world,  I worked with Jess at a well-known dog training, daycare, and boarding business in our area. Jess was one of the most dedicated and caring team managers we had on staff. Her patience, kindness, and gentle dog training skills made her an instrumental part of the team. When she moved away, her loss was felt by the clients and the dogs themselves. 

    Although she moved "hours" away from us, that didn't stop me from traveling to her for dog-boarding, even for a quick weekend getaway. She is truly that wonderful. I have always said, What am I to do if she ever stops taking care of my 10-year-old, spunky, energetic, sometimes sassy, Heeler, Darby. Jess has become a dear friend over the years, not only because of our connection to dogs, but most importantly, to my sweet Darby. Darby and her friendship is so profound that when Darby is with her, I am a bit jealous of their love. For many of us, our dogs are our lives, hearts, and souls. I promise you that Jess is the next best thing to you. She's loving, safe, playful, tender, engaged, and is a phenomenal dog trainer. Her dog-loving ways are for all types of canines and their humans. The sassy, shy, energetic, nervous, playful, old, young, and even naughty. We love her so much. She's too wonderful not to share with all of you.

    If you are looking for a good all-around dog sitter, trainer, and helper, then you’ll love Jess. I was so sad when she left our area to move to Woodland. She is the complete all-around dog helper. She helped train Jake when he was little and then provided a great place to leave him when we weren’t at home. Jess is so friendly, competent, versatile, and caring. I never worried when Jake was with Jess. She even took care of Jake and my daughter’s two dogs during their wedding and reception. She stayed at our house because the other dogs were more familiar, and it made it nice for them. Jess brought all three dogs to the photo shoot so they could be in photos. She also came to the rescue when my husband brought the wrong pants and delivered them to the venue! Really can’t say enough about what Jess can do, and hope you’ll give her a chance to love and care for your pup too.

    Jess has done so much for our little one, Maple. We first contacted her years ago for help with training our puppy. He grew to be a wonderful dog and now pulls towards her place when he knows it's boarding time. She is so mindful of dog interactions and setting the tone for successful drop-offs and pick-ups. And the photos she sends make him look like he's joined a band and is making his own way in the world, all grown up. Jess is fantastic, and we would definitely recommend her to new and old dog owners.

    We had training and boarding for both of our dogs for over 2 years. If we had known about her sooner, we would have had her for longer! Jess is amazing with dogs, calm, patient, and has great ways of getting the dogs to do what she asks. Our dogs both love her! We saw great results after staying with Jess, especially after they spent a week or more with her while we were traveling. When we’d drop them off, they’d get so excited to see her. We’d highly recommend Jess to other dog parents!

    Jess has watched my dog Ziggy several times over the past few years, and I couldn’t recommend her more highly. Ziggy is a very special, high-energy deaf cattle dog, and Jess has always shown him so much patience, kindness, and understanding. She not only cared for him beautifully but also integrated him into her own pack with so much love and ease.

    Ziggy absolutely adores Jess and her dog. He always comes home happy, well-exercised, and relaxed. Jess does a wonderful job regulating his energy, keeping him safe on walks, and making sure he feels secure and loved while I’m away. She’s also incredibly thoughtful (and unbothered!) about his endless dog hair, which I so appreciate.

    If you’re looking for someone who is both reliable and truly tuned in to animals—especially those with special needs—Jess is the one. She and her wife are both patient, compassionate, and caring. I trust them completely with Ziggy and feel so grateful to have found Jess when I did.
